Building on the clinical efficacy and success of ResMed's patented AutoSet algorithm, the AutoSet Spirit uses flow limitation technology to continuously monitor the patient's upper airway through the night. AutoSet technology allows delivery of lower treatment pressures without compromising efficacy.

Lower pressures result in fewer pressure related side effects including lower noise, greater tolerance and less mask leak. Additionally, the AutoSet Spirit interprets flow and leak characteristics and automatically compensates for leak.

Pre - Emptive Response - The Key to Lower Pressures

The AutoSet Spirit treats flow limitation by analysing the shape of the patient's insporatory flow-time curve. It then adjusts the pressure to restore airflow and maintain airway patency.

As flow limitation typically precedes snoring and obstruction, early detection of a compromised airway allows pre-emptive treatment prior to snoring or apneic events. By maintaining an open airway rather than forcing a closed airway open, lower treatment pressures can be achieved.

If an apnea suddenly occurs without any preceding flow limitation or snore, the AutoSet Spirit increases the pressure to prevent subsequent apneas. If no further events occur, the AutoSet Spirit reduces the pressure back to a minimum level.
